This painting marks an important transformation in my practice. After finally completing Space and time, I suddenly understood a different technique—a specific way of mixing colours and applying brush strokes. Burning with curiosity about what would happen if I used the brush this way, I grabbed my easel and headed to the back garden on a sunny summer day. The piece came together vigorously, almost urgently, as I explored this newfound approach. I fell in love with the top section immediately: that mixture of white, red, and pink reminded me of blooming cherry trees, which is how the painting earned its name.
